In the world of traveling by plane, flight delays will be inevitable for a number of different reasons. Backed-up runways and ‘technical difficulties’ are often the culprits. One can even turn on the news from time to time and hear about the snow or high winds that caused delays at a local airport. Even improvements can cause flight delays. Due to the Atlanta airport runway construction, viable runway space was greatly reduced causing a backup of airplanes that needed to take off. Uncomfortable as they may be for some travelers, there is little that can be done about flight delays except to wait them out. It is the seasoned traveler who has learned to use the time during a flight delay wisely.
Flight delay information is updated regularly to keep travelers informed. One can find Florida flight delays all the way to Alaska Airlines flight delays by going online and finding a flight schedule. It is wise to check what other airports are experiencing flight delays. Even if the airport one’s flight is leaving from is running according to plan, getting to a destination that is having delays can still be inconvenient. For example, if flight delays and a cancellation at O’Hare Airport are reported it can mean a long sit for everyone until runways are cleared and baggage is rightfully regained. Delays between connections are also inconvenient. If American Airlines has flight delays or Delta has flight delays, it can mean missing a flight.
On average, a flight delay runs about 15 minutes but it is not unheard of for flight delays to last much longer. To pass the time during a flight delay, some may read, listen to music or catch a short nap. For long, egregious delays many airlines will reimburse or give flight delay compensation. This can be in the form of vouchers for another flight, hotels and sometimes even money. Generally, an airline will do their best to ‘make right’ for a customer who has been bumped off of a flight. Unfortunately, there are instances when little or nothing is done at all. This is where it can be handy to have flight delay insurance. The longer the wait, the higher the percentage of reimbursement. Because overbooking has been such a problem in the past, countries have begun doing the same thing by enforcing flight delay rules. If klm or other airlines were to bump a passenger only to make them wait hours or days before catching another flight, the price of the ticket must be reimbursed to the passenger.
